The changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown, Arlington National Cemetery occurs every hour. The Commander of the Honor Guard inspects the gun and uniform of the relief guard. Then dismisses the guard on duty. The new guard takes his place. The honor guard stands at attention for twenty-one seconds. He takes twenty-one steps to the opposite site of the tomb. He does an about face and stands for twenty-one seconds. The honor guard will repeat this flawlessly for one hour till he is relieved.
